grandi's bLOGWHY and HowThis blog is aimed at:
I plan to review texts that teach me something valuable about the craft of writing for children, as I'm currently working on a picture book portfolio and a couple of chapter book texts. Over the years I’ve found the second best way* to learn to write was to study books I admired– to read as a writer, in creative writing teaching parlance. And that's what I plan to do with (mostly) picture books, on this kid lit. review site. I won't be blogging solely about the latest offerings out there (many excellent bloggers are doing just that, e.g. My Shelves are Full, Book Murmuration, Mamma Filz, Bookwagon.) I might also delve into my golden oldies stack, i.e. books that my children and I loved all the gloss off through re-readings, or the current ones I most enjoying sharing with my granddaughters. I find I’m keen on books that contain a treat for the adult reader too so expect applause for sly humour, irony and visual genius. I love talking children's books so please get in touch with comments and even suggestions for review. *The 1st best way is to teach [writing.] Seneca said something like that first. |
